We built TYPEFAST because we believe everyone deserves a fast, clean, and genuinely helpful way to measure and improve their typing speed — no sign-ups, no ads in the way, no nonsense.
Typing is one of those skills that quietly affects everything you do on a computer. Whether you are writing emails, coding, chatting with friends, or filling out forms, the speed and accuracy of your fingers on the keyboard directly impacts your productivity.
Most typing test websites are cluttered with pop-ups, force you to create accounts before you can do anything, or bury the actual test under layers of menus. We wanted something different: open the page, start typing, see your results. That is TYPEFAST in a nutshell.
The project started in Beira, Mozambique, out of a personal need. We were practicing for speed and could not find a tool that was both modern and distraction-free. So we made one, and decided to share it with anyone who could use it.
The standard 60-second WPM benchmark. Type as many words correctly as you can before time runs out.
One wrong character and the test is over instantly. Your score is the longest streak of correct characters.
Words drop from the sky. Type them before they hit the ground. 3 lives, and speed increases as you level up.
No timer, no pressure, no fail state. Just relax and type at your own pace with gentle error highlighting.
Race against a ghost that types at your Personal Best speed. A visual track shows who is ahead in real time.
Words are reversed (e.g. "start" becomes "trats"). Type the reversed word as shown. A fun brain challenge.
Upcoming words gradually fade to invisible as you type. Trains your ability to read ahead and remember what comes next.
Type the word before the ticking bomb explodes! The timer gets shorter as you progress through levels.
Play melodies by typing! Each key maps to a musical note. Follow the sequence to play songs with sustain.
Type through classic literature excerpts or upload your own text file. Progress is saved so you can resume anytime.
A toggleable sound layer that maps your keystrokes to piano notes in C-Major with sustain. Works with any mode.
The default setting mixes short, medium, and long words naturally — just like real typing. You can also lock to Easy, Medium, or Hard.
A keyboard heatmap and per-key breakdown show you exactly where to focus your practice.
Your best results are saved on your device for every mode and difficulty combination.
WPM (Words Per Minute) is the standard measure of typing speed. We count only the words you type correctly, then divide by the time elapsed in minutes. For example, if you correctly type 50 words in 60 seconds, your WPM is 50.
Accuracy is the percentage of words you got right out of the total number of words you attempted. If you typed 48 words and 45 were correct, your accuracy is about 94%.
Keystrokes are tracked individually. Each character you type is compared to the expected character, so you get a clear picture of how many individual key presses were correct versus incorrect.
If you are curious where you stand, here is a rough guide based on data from typing studies and competitions:
TYPEFAST is a personal project that grew out of a genuine need. It is free to use, and we intend to keep it that way. If you find bugs or have suggestions, we welcome feedback through our contact page.
We believe that tools for learning should be accessible to everyone regardless of where they live or how much they can afford. That is a principle we will not compromise on.
